Gift Guide: DIY Food as Holiday Gifts

Posted by OXO on 26th Nov 2020

If you’re looking to save money this holiday season (really, who isn’t?) and like to give homemade food and useful gear (really, who doesn’t?) then look no further than these DIY food gift ideas.

Edible gifts appeal to the foodie in us all, and who doesn’t love getting a thoughtful and tasty treat? The holidays are the perfect time to head to the kitchen and share your best recipes with your loved ones. Just add a few festive flourishes and these food gifts will be sure to please anyone on your list.

Cookie Mix in a POP Container
It’s no secret we love cookies! Do your own take on the cookie-mix-in-a-jar and use your go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe or a creative take on the traditional brownie recipe instead. Just layer all the dry, perishable ingredients in a POP container, and if you want to up the ante, add a set of measuring cups and measuring spoons to round out your gift.

Flavored Salts in Small POP Containers
Homemade flavored salts are the DIY holiday food gift that keeps on giving since whoever receives them will use them time and again to season eggs, avocado (or other) toast, popcorn and more. Creative mix-ins can include any number of herb pairings (like rosemary and sage salt), or use dried citrus zest for a special kick. We gift ours in a mini POP container. You could just as easily fill up a salt shaker.

Pizza Tools and Tomato Sauce
We think of pizza as a great equalizer. It’s so easy to make at home, we’re surprised more people don’t do it more often. Arm a pizza lover in your life with homemade sauce in a Smart Seal glass container along with tools such as a pizza wheel and server.

Margarita Tools
Home shaken margaritas are the perfect summer accompaniment to days around the pool and holiday parties. Putting together a margarita kit makes a great gift for any aspiring mixologist. Just include a bottle of tequila, cointreau and some lemon and limes. Plus the necessary tools - a swivel peeler or citrus peeler and some extra large ice cubes to keep your drinks cool.

Homemade Dog Treats
Technically, you could eat these dog treats, but we’d rather you give them to your pooch-obsessed pals and their fur babies. We think homemade dog treats in a POP container or smart seal set are thoughtful and fun!
